Meet the Face Behind Lean Law

I’m Cheryl Lean, the proud owner of Lean Law. I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.
Before my thriving career in law, I was self-employed and heavily involved in photography, photojournalism and radio broadcasting.
I won a national photography award in 1978, and my photographic work was shown and published internationally. In 1981 a filmstrip I directed called “Just one mess” The Halifax Explosion won a significant award at the New York Film and Television Festival in 1981.
Being passionate about equality, women’s rights, and having a firm belief in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, I applied to the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University and was accepted.
Upon completing my studies and articulation at Ogilvy Renault in Ottawa, in 1991, I started my practice to include employment law, civil litigation and family law cases.
In 2004, I made the wise decision to concentrate on family law, child welfare, and wills and estates, opening Lean Law in the beautiful Prince Edward County.
Since my early days at Ogilvy Renault and nearly thirty years of experience as a lawyer, the field of law has changed considerably. When I started articling, the firm’s lawyers did not have computers and relied entirely upon the secretarial staff. Nowadays, thanks to technological advances and the internet, I have information at my fingertips and software that streamlines all processes, reducing labor and saving both my and my client’s time.
The part of my business I find the most rewarding is the relationships I build every day. I enjoy helping people and find enormous satisfaction knowing that my services get justice for those who deserve it. I have found that running my law practice has given me the freedom to represent my clients as per my beliefs and convictions and take the responsibility incredibly seriously.
At Lean Law, I believe in providing exceptional service, compassionate support and appropriate legal advice that is always based on my client’s best interests.
As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is my integrity, honesty and accountability. I attribute my success to my dedication to people and my never-say-die attitude towards finding solutions that are right for them.
My track record of exceeding individual expectations and helping all in need of legal services has given me immense satisfaction over the years and continues to inspire me every day.
When I am not at work, I still enjoy photography and take many memorable images. I also enjoy being outdoors. I hike in the summer months and love cross-country skiing in the cold winter months.
I have enjoyed sharing my story about the things which matter to me and how they influence the way I do business.
If you or someone you know could benefit from my family law expertise, I invite you to get in touch. I offer legal services covering all aspects of family law, from drafting separation agreements and parenting agreements, to representation in court for divorce, family law, and CAS (Children’s Aid Society) cases. I have also helped many military members resolve their property, pension, support, and parenting issues.
My services are available to clients across Carrying Place, Picton, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Belleville, Trenton, Brighton, Greater Napanee, Stirling-Rawdon, Cobourg, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, Lennox and Addington County.
